Banking Regulation Act of India, 1949 defines Banking as “accepting, for the purpose of lending or of investment of deposits of money from the public, repayable on demand or otherwise or withdrawable by cheque, draft order or otherwise.” The Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 and the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, govern the banking operations in India.
Organizational Structure of Banks in India:
In India banks are classified in various categories according to differ rent criteria. The following figure indicate the banking structure:

1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI): The RBI is the supreme monetary and banking authority in the country and has the responsibility to control the banking system in the country. It keeps the reserves of all scheduled banks and hence is known as the “Reserve Bank”.
2. Public Sector Banks:
State Bank of India and its Associates
Regional Rural Banks Sponsored by Public Sector Banks

Nationalized Banks
3. Private Sector Banks:
Old Generation Private Banks
Foreign New Generation Private Banks
Banks in India
4. Co-operative Sector Banks:

State Co-operative Banks


Primary Agricultural Credit Societies

Everything in the world has a structure which shapes it into the the final good and so does the banking system. The banking system has a precise organization that structure the bank to the way we see it in the real life. So to understand how does the banking system really works we need to identify its structure and organization and that's what we are going to do in this lesson.

هذي واحد ثاني بعد:
A bank is a financial institution and a financial intermediary that accepts deposits and channels those deposits into lending activities which makes it a connection between customers that have capital deficits and customers with capital surpluses. So this leads us to the banking system which is the structural network of institutions that offer financial services within a country.
And to really understand what does the banking system means we have to know its structure and organization which I will explain in depth in this presentation.
