نستخدم below في الحالات التالية:

1- في قياس الحرارة والارتفاع

. The temperature is three degrees below zero
ترجمة الجملة: درجة الحرارة ثلاث درجات تحت الصفر.

parts of Holland are below sea level
ترجمة الجملة: أجزاء \ مناطق من هولندا تقع تحت سطح البحر

2- لو عندي شيئين مش التاني تحت التاني مباشرة .
The climbers stopped 300m below the top of the mountain
في المثال المتسلقين تحت قمة الجبل بمسافة 300 متر لذا استعملنا below

Under

1- لو كان الجماد أو الشيء يغطيه أو يخبيه شئ ما.

What are you wearing under your sweater?
ما الذي ترتديه تحت معطفك؟

2- تستخدم ايضا للتعبير عن معنى "أقل من " و "أصغر من سن ... "

There were under 20 people at the lecture
كان هناك أقل من عشرين شخصا في المحاضرة.

You can't watch the film if you are under 18.
لا يمكنك مشاهدة الفيلم إذا كنت أقل من 18 عاما

Between and among

استخدامات between
1- نقول أن شخصا ما أو شيئا ما موقعه بين عدد من الاشياء أو الاشخاص يمكن التمييز والفصل بينها.
المثال:
She was standing between Alice and Mary.

2- تستخدم ايضا للتحدث عن فترات زمنية ومسافات محدودة.
المثال:
We need two metres between the windows.
I’ll be in the office between 9 and 11.

3- للتحدث عن ان موقع شيء يقع على جانبي شيء.
المثال:
A little valley between high mountains.

4- للتحدث عن الفروقات والاختلافات بين الاشياء
مثال:
What are the main differences between plants and animals?


حالات يجب الانتباه إليها:
إذا كان شخصا ما أو شيء ما وسط حشد أو جمهور من الناس حيث يصعب التفريق بينها نستخدم
Amongالمثال:
She was standing among a crowd of children.

مع الافعال يقاسم و يشاطر

الحالة الاولى: قبل سلسلة من الاسماء المفردة عادة يستخدم
Between المثال:
He divided his money between his wife and his sister.
في المثال يوجد اسمين مفردين هما زوجته واخته .

قبل إسم الجمع يمكن استخدام ايا من
Among or among الامثلة:
I shared the food among /between all my friends.

Tall and high

هاتان الكلمتان برضو من الكلمات البتعمل لخبطة و أخطاء كثيرة في مواضيع الكتابة. سنوضح إن شاء الله كيفية استخدام هاتين الكلمتين مع الامثلة.

اولا:
Tall
تستخدم للتحدث عن طول الاشجار – الاشخاص- المباني- ارتفاع الطوابق
المثال:
How tall are you? ما طولك
I’m 6 feet tall.

إذا أردنا القول بأن شخصا ما اقدامه أو اصابعه طويلة نستخدم
Long
Ann has got beautiful long legs.
في هذه الحالة لا تستخدم
Tall

ثانيا:
High
تستخدم للتحدث عن ارتفاع الاشياء فوق سطح الارض.
المثال:
The clouds are very high today

مالفرق بين

floor

ground

underneath


كلمة ground تستخدم مع الطابق الارضي فقط فنقول ground floor


بينما floor تستخدم للتحدث عن أي عدد من الطوابق سواء السابع او المئة.


بالنسبة ل underneath فليس لها صلة بالكلمتين السابقتين. حيث انها حرف جر معناه under .الفرق بينها وبين under في الاستخدام انها تستخدم لوصف موقع الشيء المادي المحسوس. لاحظي الامثلة التالية:

there's a mouse under/underneath the table
هناك فأر تحت الطاولة

بينما لا يمكن استعمال underneath في هذا المثال
نقول : he's under 18

اليوم إن شاء الله حنتكلم عن الفعلين fit and suit وحنعرف إن شاء الله متى نستخدمهم.
اولا: fit
تستخدم لوصف الحجم والشكل إذا كان يلائمك ويناسبك. فإذا استخدمت هذه الكلمة مع الملابس والاحذية فهذا يعني أن حجمها مناسب
these shoes don't fit me, have you got a bigger size
هذه الاحذية ضيقة ، هل لديك حجم أكبر؟

ثانيا: suitتستخدم للتحدث عن الألوان وستايل وطريقة اللبس.
blue is a colour that suits me very well

من استخدامات suit ايضا للتحدث عن أن مواعيد \ ترتيبات معينة تتناسب وتتلائم مع شخص ما.

farther and furtherتستخدم الكلمتان للتحدث عن المسافة. نقول
Edinburgh is farther/further away than York

تستخدم further فقط للتعبير عن معنى " بالاضافة إلى"

الكلمتين choice - alternative وكلاهما يعني " خيار" ولكن سنرى الفرق بينهما .

نستخدم alternative حين يكون هناك خيار\ اختيار بين امرين فقط

بينما choice إذا كان لدينا اكثر من خيارين

ANTICIPATE / EXPECT / LOOK FORWARD TO

كل هذه الافعال تعني يتوقع ولكن سنرى الفروقات بينها ومتى يجب استخدام كل منها

ANTICIPATE(verb
to believe that something is about to occur (often with the connotation of eagerness, hope or preparation)

اي اننا نتوقع ان شيئا ما على وشك أن يحدث ( غالبا ما يرتبط بالحماسة والرغبة في التجهز له ).

EXPECT(verb)—to assume something is going to occur in the future
افتراض ان شيئا ما سيحدث في المستقبل.

LOOK FORWARD TO (phrasal verb)—to expect or anticipate something to occur in the future

Note that some dictionaries define LOOK FORWARD TO as implying excitement or pleasure, but this is not always the case—though a sense of irony carrying over from this happy connotation can be subtle (see below).

اي نتوقع ان شيئا ايضا سيحدث في المستقبل.
معظم القواميس تعرف ب look forward to بما يجعل التعريف ضمنيا يشمل الانتظار لحدوث شيء بفرح شديد - و لكن الكلمة لا تعبر عن هذه الحالة في كل الاستخدامات.

We are expecting him to arrive in December.

I’ve been anticipating the possibility of trouble with the device, and have made appropriate arrangements for a back-up.

Argue and debate

كلا الفعلين يعني يجادل ويناقش- لنرى الفرق الطفيف في المعنى بينهما

Argue

means to have a verbal fight
Don't argue with me.

Debate
ياخذ هذا الفعل معنى النقاش بشكل رسمي في ندوة \ مسابقة كلامية ..

Debate means to have a formal verbal competition with rules و a judge, and a winner and a loser.

مترادفات متعلقة بالفرق بين المفردات التي تتعلق بكلمة وظيفة.


job : any activity which is compensated with money
We talk about full and part-time jobs


profession : any job which requires higher education, esp., doctor, lawyer, nurse, teacher, engineer, scientist, etc.


vocation : refers to a job that one feels driven to do by some inner "voice".


occupation : any activity which occupies one's time. "To occupy" means "to fill". So, an occupation is something which fills one's spare time. (It usually refers to the thing which fills the major part of one's time).

faculty and staff

Faculty

remember and recall

REMEMBER(verb)— to become aware of something previously out of mind or forgotten (Note that REMEMBER tends to be used for more important, past or emotional references, particularly references to people. Note too that REMEMBER has the additional meaning of keeping someone in mind or giving regards

I remember very well how we used to visit each other’s families when we were young.


RECALL(verb/noun)—to bring something to mind; the ability to remember (Note that RECALL tends to be used for more incidental, recent or intellectual references, particularly references to situations or events.

I recall that he said last week that he’ll be arriving this Tuesday.
